I’d like to offer my feedback on the Gateshead Parent Carer Forum. I have a son who is 26 and became aware of Parent Carer Forums when he was younger, although my involvement was very little then as I had a lot to do with other services at that time. When my now 15 year old daughter was diagnosed with Autism some years ago I looked again at what services were available to us as a family. Although it’s changed slightly over the years the Gateshead Parent Carer Forum was my first go to. Amanda and the team are very supportive. Emails, WhatsApp parents group, one to one support, coffee mornings and training opportunities are available to any Parent Carer needing support. Ive utilised them all. Such a valuable service that we can drop into as much or as little as needed. No pressure just support. Sit quiet and listen or speak up and offer your experiences. It’s relaxed, informative, supportive and helpful. The team are a good link between families and professionals. They’re a great advocate and ensure services provide what they are meant to be providing and feedback areas of improvement. A great service I recommend to all SEND families in Gateshead.
